Crystalle Lacouture is a multidisciplinary artist based in Boston, MA
Crystalle Lacouture's multidisciplinary practice is rooted in her longstanding interests in the artist as helper, interpreter, and witness. Working across painting, printmaking, installation, and community-based archival projects, she builds on daily practices and site-specific research, developing work in series.
Lacouture employs her distinct abstract language in purposeful ways across different modalities — subverting the inherent violence of readymade targets with shield-like imagery, describing symbolic moments in a day through large woodblock-printed shapes, embedding coded text in beaded strands or monumental museum murals. She believes fundamentally that the medium must support the message, and that all her work is purpose-driven and conceptual.
She draws inspiration from wide influences including poetry, constellations, glyphs, maritime signal flags, Asemic Writing, and sound as a conduit for memory.
